The user-friendly 210 page workbook is designed to give the student the maximum learning experience. Each lesson includes several exercises and quizzes to help the student practice and reinforce what's been learned.

We have included certain features in the workbook to serve these purposes:

Sound and Transliteration. Each letter page uses an example from an English word to describe how to pronounce the letter. The letter page also indicates how to transcribe each Hebrew letter into English.

Related Words. The names of Hebrew letters are often a variation on a Hebrew word. Jewish sages have sometimes also connected the names of Hebrew letters with similar sounding Hebrew words (even if they are not historically related).

Some of these related words appear on the letter page. These are intended to help the student gain an appreciation for the spiritual depth of the language. It also associates the letter with a more concrete concept that may aid in memorization.

Look-alikes. The difference between Hebrew letters is frequently very subtle. By examining the differences between similar-looking Hebrew letters, students can note their distinguishing features and avoid confusion.

Sample Verse. If a Hebrew letter has a related word that appears in the Bible, a sample verse appears at the bottom of the letter page containing a form of that word. After you have completed this course, go back to these sample verses to practice reading, and see if you can find the Hebrew word related to the letter.

Alef-Beit Midrash. Ancient Jewish writings often use the Hebrew letters in stories and parables to illustrate biblical concepts. Some of those illustrations are provided here to offer an additional spiritual element to the letters. Midrash is a Hebrew term for "study" or "homily" and a beit midrash is a study hall.

Words that Begin with the Letter. A list of Hebrew words is presented with each letter. Some of these words are very common—you may have already heard them. You will also see patterns where words with similar or related concepts sometimes contain some of the same letters.

Names of the Messiah. These titles are either directly derived from the Hebrew Scriptures or translated into Hebrew from the Apostolic Writings. The purpose is to keep Yeshua the Messiah in focus and to reflect on his attributes from a Hebraic perspective.

Grammatical Concepts. Some chapters provide information about Hebrew grammar. The purpose of these sections is to present grammatical ideas so that a student will be somewhat familiar with them, should they take a more advanced course in the future. One need not feel that he or she has mastered the grammatical concepts presented here. If desired, these sections may be skipped or postponed for a later time.

Vocabulary. In each of the twelve lessons, we will introduce seven new vocabulary words that are used both in the Bible and in modern Hebrew. These are some of the most basic and commonly used Hebrew words.

Exercises and Quizzes. Exercises help reinforce what you have learned. Quizzes are helpful for teachers to know how well students understand what they have been taught. One studying alone can use the quizzes as additional exercises.
