From Parasha: Korach

Guarding the Sanctuary

Though our spirit--our inner man--delights in the expressed will and wisdom of God that is His own instruction, our flesh fights against it tooth and nail. Our fleshly minds work overtime to try to find reasons to excuse ourselves from keeping the commandments. Our wicked hearts resent the authority of God. Yet in Messiah we have a new identity. We don't need to submit to our flesh. We need not join Korah and perish in his rebellion. In Messiah the flesh has been crucified with Messiah. It is within our grasp to live in Messiah....

How to Split a Congregation

A proverb says, "Woe to the wicked, and woe to his neighbor." This applies to Dathan and Abiram, the neighbors of Korah. Dathan and Abiram were neighbors with a contentious man. That is why they were punished with him and were swept from the world. (Numbers Rabbah 17:5) ...

The Priest on the Throne

The blossoming of Aaron’s staff is the definitive sign that indicates God’s choice of Aaron. But what is it really? A staff is nothing but a dead branch of wood, a dry and lifeless stick. When the staff blossoms and brings forth buds, producing almonds, it is coming back to life. In Numbers 17, the definitive sign of God’s choice is resurrection. So too with Yeshua. His resurrection is the definitive sign that indicates God’s choice....

Korach's Rebellion

Korah’s rebellion takes place in the very members of our body. According to Paul, our very flesh is opposed to the Torah. Our fleshly minds are in open rebellion to the commandments of God. (Romans 8:7) Yet in Messiah we have a new identity. We don’t need to submit to our flesh. We need not join Korah and perish in his rebellion. In Messiah the flesh has been crucified with Messiah....
