New School—Old Friend
Are you looking for a study courses that will allow you to engage in Hebrew and Messianic Jewish studies? I would like to take a moment to introduce you to an old friend and a New School for Jewish Studies.
Carl Kinbar is a good friend and a personal advisor. He is a source of soft wisdom, careful critique, and constant encouragement. He has also blessed me as a father by taking my eldest son under his wings and training him in higher levels of Hebrew, Midrash, and general Jewish studies than I am able. Carl is also the director of New School for Jewish Studies.
This fall the New School is forming a class that would fit well with advanced FFOZ students. If you are capable in Hebrew and are looking for an interactive course with qualified instructors, I cannot encourage you enough to consider joining the, Torah: Narratives and Halakah course. Here is the course description:
Narrative and halakhah are the two foundational modes of Jewish religious discourse. In this course, we explore three narratives and three halakhic texts taken from the Torah. This involves a close reading (in Hebrew) of selected prose writings from the Torah. The dual focus of the course is on building language skills and reading the distinct message(s) of these writings.
A firm grasp of the Hebrew text is a basic factor in understanding the Torah. This course exposes students to a cross-section of Torah texts and helps advance the student from elementary to intermediate level Hebrew skills.
In my opinion this is an ideal course for any disciple of the Master, Yeshua, who wants to participate in in-depth Torah study and advance their Hebrew skills at the same time. This class begins on October 14.
The Application Fee is $25, which we will waive for anyone who mentions FFOZ when they apply online before October 14th. The course costs $150.
Additional Foundational Hebrew Classes through MJTI
Perhaps you’re looking for an online introductory Hebrew class? Allow me to also recommend the MJTI (Messianic Jewish Theological Institute) School of Jewish Studies foundational class on Hebrew. The MJTI courses are introductory Biblical Hebrew and include minimal text study.
These foundation classes through MJTI present the unique opportunity for students to take adult education level courses online. There are no prerequisites. The courses are designed to impart a general knowledge of the subject area of the topic, with student and teacher interaction. All courses require 12 class hours of instruction, readings, and a paper and/or examination.
Foundation classes are taught by qualified instructors who instruct through the lens of Messianic Jewish biblical and cultural understanding.
Review the “Introduction to Hebrew 1” class here for more information. MJTI Hebrew Introduction. Classes begin on October 14th.
