Biblically Kosher Release Update
God willing, we will be shipping our newest book, Biblically Kosher, next week. Biblically Kosher is a book that examines in detail what the Bible (both the Hebrew Scriptures and the New Testament) says about food.
Many people say that they keep "biblically kosher" or have a "Leviticus diet" because they avoid eating the unclean animals listed in Leviticus 11. But the Bible actually says much more about what to eat than that. In fact, many of the kosher laws people consider "rabbinic" actually arise naturally from the text itself.
The book also clears up passages in the New Testament that are often cited as proof that dietary laws no longer apply to believers. You will learn the true meaning of verses like:
- Rise, Peter; kill and eat. (Acts 10:13)
- I know and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself. (Romans 14:14)
- Jesus declared all foods clean. (Mark 7:19)
- Let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink. (Colossians 2:20)
- Nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving. (1 Timothy 4:4)
- One person believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables. (Romans 14:2)
This book represents an important step forward for Messianic Judaism. It is not just about food. It is about the Messianic community committing to Torah life and embracing the divine covenant. It is about adopting a new paradigm regarding Yeshua's relationship to Judaism and traditional Jewish values and worldview.
We anticipate that this book will be a watershed for the Messianic community--that we will see new growth and revival as we adopt a more solid perspective on Yeshua's message and its impact on the lives of his followers. Through this new growth, we hope to present to the world a glimpse of the "kosher Jesus"--that is, a vivid, accurate representation of Rabbi Yeshua who lived and taught devotion to God within the framework of the Jewish nation and the Judaism of his time.
