Torah Study on the Apostles

The Torah is an ancient scroll containing the books of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy--the first five books of the Bible. But in Jewish vernacular, the word Torah can be used broadly to refer to the whole Bible, and the Oral Law as well. This is because the word "Torah" (תורה) is from the Hebrew root, yara (ירה) which means "to instruct," or "to teach." Although it does contain laws, Torah itself is not only a "law," but it is God's "teaching" and "instruction."

In Messianic Judaism, we might feel reluctant to include the works of the Oral Law like the Talmud, Mishnah, and Midrash under the category of Torah, but we should not feel reluctant to include the teachings and the stories of our Master under that heading. He was a teacher of Torah, and Moses wrote about Him. That's why we have dedicated an entire year of our Torah Club program to the study of the Gospels: Torah Club Volume Four: Chronicles of the Messiah.

This fall, we are broadening the tent of Torah a little further to bring in the book of Acts and the tales and stories of the Apostles in Torah Club Volume Six: Chronicles of the Apostles. This new Bible study offers Messianic Jewish commentary on the book of Acts from a Torah-based perspective. The new Torah Club also tells the story of the early believers in Yeshua up through the end of the Bar Kokbah revolt in 135 CE.

Learning the story behind the origins of Christianity reveals that the earliest believers were actually a sect of devout, Torah-observant Jews, faithfully following Yeshua and walking in obedience to the commandments. A lot has changed since then, and most of Christianity has long since forgotten that origin, but Torah Club Volume Six: Chronicles of the Apostles will offer you a chance to rewind your religion.

Check out a video preview of the new Torah Club Volume here.

Subscribe to Chronicles of the Apostles before September 30, 2011, and receive a three-volume set of critical sources: The Works of Josephus, The Works of Philo, and Eusebius' Ecclesiastical History (a retail value of $79.85) as a free gift! (See details at torahclub.org).

Visitor Feedback:

Very nice offering the primary sources (Philo, Josephus, Eusebius) with this Torah Club Year 6. I appreciate the way FFOZ is setting a higher standard and drawing more people into an informed faith. Keep raising the bar and encouraging learning.
