Mishlei Musings
The Appetite of the Wise
Tags: character, controlling desires, Mishlei Musings
In the last episode of Mishlei Musings we learned the value of speaking in love. We saw that it is often difficult to control the tone of our voices in times of emotion. In addition to speaking in love, controlling our appetites and desires is also essential to our spiritual growth in life. Those appetites as well as our personal character traits are God-given and His desire is for us to channel them towards that which is good rather than using them for negative purposes.

Visitor Feedback:
My understanding of the incident of Dinah ---was more a seduction and a desire to marry her...NOT rape. That only compounds Levi and Simeon crime of deceit and murder. Jacob himself admitted they caused the Israelite name to stink.
***Toby's Response:*** I have hears fo this interpretation before but it seems that the Hebrew points more to Dinah been taken by "force."

I think that even if Shechem have had the desire of marry and love Dinah, he had to do it in the right way. Was he so naive that couldn't imagined the consequences of his behavior? Did he act in a respectable way with Dinah's family? I don't think so.

A good teaching, much detail. Just one question. Why haven't you done a teaching these past few months???
**Toby's response:***Thanks for the kind words. We have been really busy with other projects and speaking tours. Perhaps we will get back to these in the fall.
