Mishlei Musings
A Father's Discipline
Tags: discipline, Mishlei Musings, proverbs
In the last episode of Mishlei Musings we learned about the characteristics of honesty and truth. These high moral traits are not acquired overnight but require a lifelong pursuit. In our ongoing quest for a closer relationship with God, sooner or later we will end up off track. We will get lost in the day-to-day grind of life and lose sight of the greater picture of eternity. In these times our Father in Heaven anxiously awaits for us to head back in the right direction. One way that He brings us back on track is through His discipline.

I enjoyed this very much, discipline is the thing we all need but at the same time we dont want it. This teacher got the point of how important dicsipline is but did it in a loving way, I think alot of times when it is being taught it is being taught in a hard way and God is made out to be this mean man in the sky just waiting to rebuke us. I think when love is added to discipline it can be recieved much better and this teaching did a good job at that. Thank you very much.

Hi Toby,
We are so blessed to be able to continue benefitting from your gift of teaching. The children ages 3, 5, 7, and 8 sit with us and learn. They are excited to hear from a teacher that they have met and respect. We have aspired to read a book of Proverbs to them every day for the past year, so this teaching enriches the Word in which they are becoming very familiar. The concept of correction being a form of love is difficult and the eight year old said, "you mean that there are children who do not receive correction and they wish they could have it?". I have learned to love G-d's correction in my life and I pray that our children will know the benefit of loving parents acting in obedience to God's command.

Nice work Toby. First you have to live out receiving discipline with humility and giving correct loving discipline to your children. That gave you the authority to deliver a message like this. Very well said. Encouraging as a dad and as a child of God.
