Learn Hebrew...stay young!
Tags: Hebrew, midrash, Torah
As a moderator on the Torah Club Online Forum I have found that we often have discussions that focus on different Hebrew words and their meanings. More than once I have heard people say, 'I really should learn Hebrew.' Well, now you can!! First Fruits of Zion is offering an at home study program called "Getting Started in Hebrew". This twelve session class (with videos and study helps) will give you the opportunity to pick up any Hebrew text and be able to read it.
Once you have the ability to read Hebrew then you can move on to other FFOZ resources like, Jot and Tittle and Search the Sidra, to help you learn more about the language. But, you have to know your Aleph-Beit first. This program will give you the tools to be able to read Hebrew and learn both the consonants and the vowels of this beautiful and poetic language.
As I have been teaching the Torah in my congregation, time and time again I have told people that they really should learn the biblical languages. But living in a small town in Wisconsin can make it difficult to find places to learn Hebrew and Greek. Now we have the ability to have a learned teacher like Aaron Eby right in the comfort of our own homes and congregations. Currently, we have 24 people in our congregation preparing to take the Hebrew Class. This program will give you your first steps into Hebrew.
Now, many of you might be saying, "I could never learn Hebrew, it is too hard!" I think you will find this program will change your thoughts. Aaron takes you step by step through the letters of the Hebrew aleph-beit and even shares with the student midrash regrading each letter. You also get the opportunity to grow your Hebrew vocabulary as he shares words and the names for our Messiah in their original Hebrew. By the end of the classes you might be saying, "That was easier than I thought it would be."
I was reading an article the other day that said if you want to keep your brain active and alert one of the best ways to do it is to learn a new language. What better language than the language of the Torah? Our (Lutheran) congregation has 24 people ready to embark on this exciting journey into Hebrew. I hope you will too!
P.S. This is perfect for homeschoolers as well!
