Boundary Stones
Tags: Boundary Stones, Torah
My wife and I have a good friend whose daughter is deaf. Whenever we got together with them I found it very hard to communicate with her since I did not speak her language. I decided it was time to learn sign language. Now that I can sign (a little) communicating with her is much easier.
Many of us have family and friends that we try to share the Torah with are part of Church congregations. But, often times our language can get in the way. Questions like; "Who is Yeshua?", "What about the New Testament?", or "What's a mitzvah, and will it hurt me?" are all questions that we might hear. (Well, ok, maybe not the last one.)
First Fruits of Zion has a new resource that just might help. Boundary Stones is a book written for the very basic in Torah education. The resource is small enough to read in a little more than an hour. Author Aaron Eby has made theology and the Torah accessible to believers from all sorts of backgrounds. This small volume has many benefits for us as we try to explain to people the beauty of the Torah we see every day.
Benefit #1: The book is written in the language of the Church. This book discusses Jesus and his ministry in a way that will help people to see him and his disciples as followers of the Torah. It will also challenge the reader to consider their place as a disciple of Jesus. Overcoming the barrier of language can help us communicate more clearly with others.
Benefit #2: Boundary Stones focuses on a lot of the things that we as Messianics have in common with our Christian brothers and sisters. As we learn to focus on our similarities we are better able to show our friend in the Church the connection they already have to the Torah. As a pastor in a Church, myself, I am anxious to use this resource in the hopes of opening conversations about the place of Torah in our lives.
Benefit #3: This book is not written in a manner that accuses or condemns. This book follows Jesus' style of education...the asking of a question. I once heard that true education is not found in finding the right answers, but in asking the right questions. This book will help the reader ask questions that are important to not only their development as a believer, but just might be the catalyst to bring them to Torah.
I highly recommend the book Boundary Stones as a tool that can be used to help lead people to deepen their faith journey. This material written in a language that people can understand just might help your family and friends see the blessings of his plan and help us in returning to the original Boundary Stones of our faith.
