Torah Portions Facebook App
Facebook is a social networking web site that helps people keep in touch with friends and family.
Now I wouldn't necessarily recommend that a person join Facebook. There are positives and negatives about getting involved in the whole social networking thing, but some Messianic people have found it useful and fun.
If you already have a Facebook account, then let me recommend our new Torah Portions Facebook application. It's a little utility that you can add to your profile that displays the current weekly Torah reading.
This will not only help keep you up-to-date with the current reading cycle, but it is also a non-confrontational way to pique the interest of your friends and family and introduce them to Torah. The Torah Portions Facebook app was developed to work alongside our new Torah outreach site, torahportions.org.
The new app is currently the only Messianic Facebook application in the directory, and in all likelihood, it is the first Messianic Facebook app ever created!
You can install the application by visiting this page.

Excellent! I think this is a great way to share Torah among Christian friends. Thanks for this.

i installed it straight away... for messianics in the UK (who are few and far between) it is a nice way to keep in touch.
i recommend the application to everyone who is a member... remember to check out the facebook group UK Messianic Believers (shameless i know).

Nice. Is it possible to configue this into an Apple "Wigdet" for Macs? That would be another impressive first for Messianic computer apps.

Shalom Crispin,
We will be shortly releasing a "web widget," which webmasters can use on their blogs, congregational web sites, and other sites.
A Mac widget sounds like a great idea, and it is well within the realm of possibility. However, I wouldn't be able to do it, since I don't have a Mac and I have only rarely used them, let alone developed software on them.

I went and made a facebook page just so I could add it, now I have absolutely no idea what to do with the page. Will have to think of something. I did find my cousin so I now officially have one friend, woo hoo.

Is there any chance that somebody could make it a Joomla! module?
Kristinn | November 14, 2008 11:10 AM
Kristinn, that sounds feasible. I hope we can make this available to anyone who is operating a web site. I am not familiar at all with programming for Joomla, however (or even using it, really), so it will take some research first. If anyone has expertise in this area, please let me know.
