Time is Flying: Hudson in View

At 7:45 this morning, I pulled up to Boaz's house to pick up Boaz and his son Jeremiah; we were on our way to the office. I hadn't had time to grab breakfast before heading out the door so as I waited for them I nursed my freshly brewed cup of coffee. There's something about coffee that just starts the day out right for me. Jeremiah headed out to the car first with a look of befuddlement on his face. As he got in the car he blurted out that it was a fast day and that he had just figured that out about five minutes ago. There was noticeable irritation is his voice. I pulled my coffee cup away from my mouth and said, "The Fast of Esther? That's today?" Obviously I had forgotten as well. Upon geting in the car Boaz noticed my cup of coffee and excitedly aksed, "Are you drinking coffee? Is there some sort of exception?" When I replied, "No". He reposnded, "Oh. It's going to be a long day."

The thing about Torah life is it requires one to always be on top of things, and I had dropped the ball on this one. The Fast of Esther was traditionally instituted to remember Esther's three day fast in the Purim story. It takes place on the day before Purim. When I got to the office I immediately printed out an eRosh calendar in hopes of not letting something like this happen again.

As I contemplated our plans for Purim tonight, it comes to mind that Pesach is only a month away! Soon it will be time to clear out the leaven and get the Seder ready. My heart started beating faster as I thought about all that I have to do before then. That also means that 49 days after Passover we will be in Hudson, Wisconsin again for the First Fruits of Zion Shavuot conference.

Although our past two Shavuot conferences have been excellent, I am particularly looking forward to this year. The topic will be Shabbat and we will be discussing the meaning and applications of the Sabbath from a Messiah-centered perspective. But what I am most excited about is sharing a sneak peak of the siddur project with the attendees. We have been anticipating this for a few years now and I think it will be worth the wait.

There are a few spaces left, but it is filling up fast. I encourage you that if you have not considered it already, think about attending. You can get more information and download the flyer here.

Happy Purim,
Toby

Wow I appreciate your honesty, you dont hear often a teacher telling he forgot a fast day:) You are right, time is flying, I feel like I know you guys for ages, but I only joined September '07:) Wish I could join the conference:( Will you release the conference on DVD?
