“Near a prairie dotted with cattle and green with soy beans, barley, corn and oats, two bearded Hasidic men dressed in black pray outside a slaughterhouse here that is managed by an evangelical Christian.”
Does the opening paragraph from August 22’s New York Times article catch your attention? It sure caught mine. Here’s a link to the whole article.
I’ve been encouraged by the partnership between Dakota Beef and Wise Organic Pastures for several years now, having attended church with several of Dakota’s founders and hearing tidbits about the organic meat industry and their fruitful partnership with Wise. Similarly, I’ve enjoyed my discussions with Isaac Wiesenfeld (Wise’s founder), who I leaned on while doing researching for Holy Cow!.
Obviously, a New York Times mention of Holy Cow! is cause for celebration. More importantly, however, is the public recognition of this partnership in such a prominent publication—one that’s not known for being overly nice to serious Judaism or Christianity. In addition, the article bodes well for friendly relations between Evangelical Christians and Orthodox Jews. That’s always a good thing.
