OPPONENTS TO THE GOSPEL SAY…

One of our volunteers had an idea to create a series of posts on common objections to Yeshua. These entires will also be part of the larger "To Whom Shall We Go?" project that we are currently developing. Here is the first installment:

As many continue to uncover the Torah roots of the Gospel and the Master they often find themselves having to defend this position as well. Such a defense often requires at the least a minimal knowledge of rabbinic literature. For those who don’t have a knowledge of or access to these sources the defense of the Gospel can be daunting.

Over a series of blogs, it is the desire to answer common objections to the Master and the message of the Gospel. These answers will be brief but still sufficient enough to provide an adequate response.

Our opponents say: Jesus told his followers to hate their parents; this violates the commandment to honor one’s father and mother.

The defense of the Gospel: Actually, the Master is setting a level of priority in regards to allegiance. The Mishnah in Bava Metzia 2:11 says that a disciple should accord honor to his Torah teacher before he accords honor to his parents. The justification is that one’s parents bring him into this world but one’s Torah teacher brings him into the World to Come.

For more rabbinic parallels to the Gospel see “King of the Jews” by D. Thomas Lancaster as well as the new conference CD set “Who Do You Say I Am? Defending A Messianic Christology”

Visitor Feedback:

That is pretty cool! great job all these arguments against the Master by the A.M are so easily answered when put into there proper Jewish context.

Hi Boaz,
I will be looking forward to the "To Whom Shall We Go?" project. It should be helpful to many...

all the best.

Hi Boaz,

FFOZ has done a great job placing Yeshua within the context of Torah and Judaism. One area I have found lacking though is in providing specific reasons why Yeshua is the Messiah. My experience has been that many of the typical Christian reasons given don't hold up. When people begin studying the prophecies Christianity says he fulfilled and find that many of them are just plain made up they are left disillusioned and often walk away from the Master. They can see that Yeshua kept Torah but not that there is evidence for him being Messiah. I would love to see more material in this area.

I look forward to the posts.

Shalom,
Justin
