Today is the first day of the Hebrew month Iyaar. The importance of Iyyar can be found in the meaning of its name. In the earliest times, it was simply called “the second month.” Knowing that Iyyar essentially means: splendor, brightness, blossom, or light—it is a biblical month that represents “increasing splendor” simply calling it the second month diminishes its uniqueness on the biblical calendar. If you are a myffoz member, next week you will receive our first eRosh email, celebrating the new month. You will be amazed at all of the biblical events that have occurred in this biblical month that affirm its title—one such familiar event would be the ascension of the Master. Through His ascension His splendor was increased.
From a naturalistic standpoint, Iyyar is the month were creation begins to blossom and increase in beauty. Flowers are blooming, the grass is getting greener, and crops begin to grow more noticeably. The sun’s light becomes more splendorous, yet without the extreme heat of the summer months. The natural world increases with the beauty of new life and growth. Once again God’s creation works hand-in-hand with His pictures of redemption.
If you have been a part of the Torah movement for any time at all you have realized the lack of materials for our children and young adults. With this new monthly eRosh email initiative we hope to address this and begin to equip you as leaders, teachers, and parents with resources for the next generations. Here is a recap of this program:
We have a new monthly email, eRosh (for Rosh Chodesh), launching this month, free for myffoz members. Inside will be great new resources to help you and your whole family keep an eye on the Appointed Times. Your little ones can help the prophet Isaiah spot the new moon on their coloring page, and the older Torah Kids can become Disciple Detectives. I’m personally excited about our new eRosh Torah Teens study, Pirkei Avinu (Sayings of our Father). Pirkei Avinu is a project that I have had on my heart for years—a teaching for young adults on Torah, Discipleship, and making the right choices.
All of the content for the eRosh is free to myffoz members. But you know as well as I do that nothing is life is free. The development, maintenance and delivery of these materials do come at a great expense. FFOZ depends upon the financial support of those that utilize our resources to create these materials that “increase His splendor.” Projects like this are impossible to put a price tag on. If we did, we know that it will only limit the distribution of these teachings, and for us it is critical that we get this materials out. Being on the road has made me even more aware of the desperate need to equip communities and families with quality Torah, Messiah centered resources. We do this as part of our mission—and I do ask for you to join us by assisting us in this call by your continued financial support.
The sun is shining in Knoxville, TN and the peace train keeps rolling down the highway. We have all just come through a bout of sickness which hit us at a bad time as we have had a very full schedule. My schedule is not going to get any easier and I ask for your prayers. I need to get healthy, I need my voice back at 100%, and I need strength for my upcoming trip to Israel. I look forward to your feedback on the first eRosh. May the Lord bless us, mature us, and may His glory, mercy, grace, love, peace, and splendor increase through our lives.
