FFOZ ISRAEL—STUDY TOUR 2007

By Daniel Lancaster  | Comments (2) | Posted on January 26, 2007

We are going to Israel. Want to come? The 2007 study-tour dates are October 28 through November 12. The total price for the program is $3,097.00.

Last November we had a great trip. Lots of biblical sites, geography lessons, history and archaeology as well as experiences at the Western Wall, the Great Synagogue and a special exploration trip to what we believe may be the tomb of one of the twelve disciples in the Galilee. You can read all about it in the forthcoming issue of messiah magazine (Issue 94).

This October your trip leaders will be Steven Lancaster, a professional educator in biblical geography and the Hebrew Scriptures, myself, D. Thomas Lancaster, Educational Director of FFOZ, and Toby Janicki, staff writer and educator with FFOZ.

The FFOZ study tour is not a tourism trip. It is intended for students who desire to experience the land from the vantage point of the biblical text. We do not stop at conventional tourist sites. We focus on archaeology, history and geography. We are more likely to select a site because it provides a good overview of the landscape than to select a site because it provides good shopping. Students must be more than ambulatory. Participants must be able to participate in long hikes, climb and descend multiples sets of steep and sometimes uneven stairs and clamber along treacherous slopes. Shopping opportunities arise, but most of our time is spent learning. We visit several biblical sites per day and provide on-site and on-bus lectures. Some optional lectures are also provided in the evenings.

Pre-trip coursework is highly recommended. We provide you with maps and materials for study purposes prior to your departure.

Opportunities for three times of prayer according to the liturgical mode are available. Participation in daily prayer services and in Shabbat services and activities is optional, but recommended.

Come prepared for a learning experience:

• Hebrew Roots
• Biblical Geography
• Bible History
• Josephus and Gospel Studies
• On-site Lectures

If this does not sound like the trip you were anticipating, we will give you until January 31, 2007 to request a complete refund of your deposit. To opt out of the trip, or for more information,

If this does sound like the type of trip for which you were hoping, then welcome aboard. contact us Jessica at 1-800-775-4807 to request an application. HaShem will surely meet with us in His holy land.

Grace and Peace to you in the Name of Him who sits at the right hand of the Father, Yeshua the Messiah, Son of God, Son of David and Son of Man.

I went on the first trip that FFOZ took to Israel, and it was the trip of a lifetime. I would say to anyone that is considering going on this tour -- "Don't hesitate! Go! You will learn so much."

The problem I had was that there was so much to see (and I spent a lot of time trying to see it ALL), that I missed some of the lectures, and consequently, some of the teaching.

But Israel is an incredible place to visit, and Steve and Daniel are incredible teachers, so what more can I say?

Just DO IT!

My wife and I were members of the November 2006 FFOZ tour of Israel. This was my third trip to Israel. If you are thinking about going on a tour with Daniel and Steven Landcaster and Toby Janicki you won’t be disappointed.

If you are excited about the Word and want to maximize your experience in the Land this is the tour for you. If you want a seemingly relentless schedule, this is the tour for you. However, if you want to go to Israel for a vacation where you just tour the popular sites you will not be a happy camper on this tour. On this tour, expect to put in full days of touring, walking, praying, and studying. Folks expect it to be pretty exhausting!

As for myself, I was a very happy camper! I was still struggling physically a bit because of some surgery I had on my knee before the trip, but it was incredibly exciting to walk in the Land. There is a great deal of use of detailed maps. If you like maps this is a great tour for you. Much emphasis is placed on trade routes used during biblical times and the importance of control of trade routes for the success of the Israelites. You will get to map, travel, and yes walk these trade routes. If you go, make sure you take the time to do your homework, know your maps well (provided by FFOZ). If you are not interested in setting time aside for study in advance, this may not be the tour for you.

If you are wondering whether you should go because of your physical condition, I would describe the tour as follows: You should be capable of (1) traveling 8-12 hours per day, (2) walking at least a couple of miles per day, (3) repeatedly getting of and on a bus, (4) climbing a hundred – two hundred steps per day. If you cannot physically handle 1-4 then you may miss some of the wonderful teaching. If you love the Word and are hungry to learn more and you are prepared to accept (while being a happy camper) being left behind on the bus and missing parts of the tour, then still go, there is much that you can see and learn.

I agree with FFOZ’s approach to the tour, which concentrates heavily on learning the geography, geology, and history of the land. They bring you into a physical connection with many of the places and events that you read about in the Word. Some of the enjoyable experiences included visiting reconstructed first century Jewish housing, walking the tunnel constructed by Hezekiah, walking hillsides terraced during biblical times, seeing the newly discovered city of David, walking down the Mt. of Beatitudes to the Sea of Galilee, descending the cliffs of Mt. Arbel, visiting the Negev, Sabbath in Jerusalem, shopping in Jerusalem. One of the interesting daily spectacles was watching our tour-mates trying to make lunch for 40 people each day. The reason they made lunch? To save time for more instruction, folks these are dedicated guys! If you are committed (to learning) and enthusiastic this is the perfect tour for you. I’m waiting for part two!
