Shalom! I am pleased to announce the 2006 FFOZ National Conference scheduled for this Shavuot. For the past several years we have been asked to host a conference that moves beyond the polemic regarding the Torah and addresses the needs of the maturing and growing Torah movement. In addition, we dreamed of a conference free from the sterile hotel environment that espoused more of a retreat-style event, allowing for more times of fellowship and relationship building. The 2006 conference addresses both of these aspirations. We are very excited to meet with you all in May in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Northern Pennsylvania.
At FFOZ, we have had the pleasure of traveling throughout the country and meeting the wonderful families, young adults and communities that comprise the Torah movement today. Now we would love for you all to meet one another, to encourage, to link up, and to develop lifelong relationships with one another. This year's conference will be a terrific opportunity for all of us to be encouraged through the collective work of God's Spirit in our lives. What better time to gather than during Adonai's appointed time of Shavuot?
Our theme this year is "Pray in the Spirit." This theme is actually birthed from my overall impression that the Torah movement today is Messiah-centered and Torah-keeping but prayer-deficient. In the past, this has been a weak area in my own life and coming into a new understanding of prayer from a Torah (biblical) perspective has rejuvenated my life, challenged me to examine my own heart, and has renewed my mind. I consider this to be critical for all in this movement. You will be awakened to what I call the "lost moed" (the lost appointed time) of prayer. We will be introducing the discipline of daily prayer and the incorporation of traditional liturgy into our congregations and personal prayer lives.
For some, the material presented at this event will be as challenging as the initial concept of keeping Torah, but I believe its application will be equally as rewarding. Gathering Messiah and Torah people together at Shavuot is sure to be enriching. It may not be Jerusalem, but it could be a little taste of heaven! Please prayerfully consider joining us.
